Press Release on the phases and procedures for provision of legitimacy to Cambodian migrant workers in Thailand
On 24 July 2017, the Commission for Provision of Lawful Status to Cambodian Migrant Workers issued a press release to inform Cambodian migrant workers in Thailand that the Thai government will facilitate mechanisms for providing legitimacy to workers through the following phases and procedures:
- Phase 1: From 24 July to 7 August, 2017 is the period in which Thai employers can register undocumented Cambodian workers who have been working at their enterprises with officials of the Ministry of Labor at any of the 97 newly established offices in Thailand.
- Phase 2: Between 8 August and 9 September, 2017, Cambodians workers then have to present themselves at those offices.
- Phase 3: From 9 September to 31 December, 2017, Cambodian workers have to apply for a Stay Permit and Work Permit from the Committee tasked with providing legitimacy to migrant workers, Thai immigration officials and officials of the Thai Ministry of Labor. During this period, workers must not change their employers or locations, or resign without permission from their employers or the Ministry of Labor in Thailand.
